Project Description

QTR Makore Block Mottle 04.3625 HV

Mimusops heckilii

Also known as African Cherry, Maku, and Cherry Mahogany, Makore is native to the African Gold Coast and Nigeria. Color of veneer ranges from pinkish brown to blood red or reddish-brown. It’s a somewhat close-grained Mahogany, but with dark red growth lines and smaller pores as found in Cherry. Some logs are straight-grained and show figure like African Mahogany stripes, others have a striking checkered figure sometimes streaked with a darker color.

The example of Makore shown here exhibits a type of figuring known as block mottle.
