Also known as Amaranth, Amarante, Bois Violet, Morado, Palo Morado, Nazzareno, and Violetwood. Purpleheart grows in Central and South America, especially in Brazil. The heartwood of this species starts dull brown but turns deep, true purple immediately after cutting. Sapwood is light grey with purple streaks.
